Part One: The Frame

After having completed the introductory exercises I have now moved on to part one of the course, The Frame. This part of the course introduces the importance of using the viewfinder for composing the image. It looks at the positioning of the subject within the frame and how the different placement affects the feel or the intended meaning of the image. It also covers the sizing of the subject within the frame, angles of view and focal length as well as dividing the frame, balance within the image, frame shapes and sizes, and cropping and extending.

My feelings on this at the moment are that I 'naturally' take photographs and edit them with these concepts in mind, but possibly without really considering why I'm doing it or what other options may work better. It will be interesting to see how my understanding and technique is affected by working through the projects and exercises. I will comment on this further as I work through this part of the course.
